Dakar au cœur de la diplomatie mondiale de l’eau en 2026

Dakar at the heart of global water diplomacy in 2026.

From 26 to 27 January 2026, Dakar will host the High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the United Nations Water Conference 2026, a strategic event that positions Senegal as a key player in global water-related solutions.

Sustainable water management has become a critical issue for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6, dedicated to universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
This meeting will bring together heads of state, international experts, regional organizations, scientific institutions, and technical partners with the aim of:

  • strengthening Member States’ commitments,

  • identifying regional priorities,

  • proposing innovative solutions,

  • and preparing the decisions that will be adopted during the official conference.

The choice of Dakar is no coincidence: in recent years, Senegal has established itself as an African leader in water governance, notably through the 2022 World Water Forum and its progress in hydraulic infrastructure.

This meeting will pave the way for enhanced global mobilization and concrete actions to combat the water crisis, which is increasingly exacerbated by climate change.
